ACG's 2026 Annual Scientific Meeting

ACG 2026

PBC Epidemiology, Patient Characteristics & Treatment Patterns (Gish et al.) Presented at the ACG Annual Scientific Meeting (Oct 9–14, 2026, Nashville), this US claims-based study of over 9,000 adults with primary biliary cholangitis (PBC) found a prevalence of 30.3 per 100,000, a largely female patient population, and high rates of comorbidities — including fatigue (65%) and pruritus (43%), with pruritus treated in only a quarter of all patients. Most patients were treated with first-line ursodeoxycholic acid, but discontinuation rates were high for both first- and second-line therapies, underscoring a need for better understanding of real-world treatment patterns as newer PBC therapies become available.
